Program: Dental Assisting

Dental Assistants perform duties and responsibilities of administrative & chair-side dental assisting in a variety of settings including dental clinics, hospitals and other agencies. They prepare restorative and specialty materials in a laboratory setting utilizing various techniques and specialty equipment. Dental Assistants practice office management skills, as well as collect and dispose of contaminated supplies. They prepare and sterilize instrumentation and other dental equipment, as well as practice infection control, prepare patients for care, answer phones, and prepare and process third party billing. Completion of this program will prepare you to take the Utah State Office of Education (USOE) Benchmark tests.

Morning Program: Defined - 225 Classroom hours
Evening Program: Open-entry/Open-exit - 225 Classroom hours
Clinical Externship: 90 hours (required for all High School Students)

Math and English levels:
Adult students will be assessed using the Test of Adult Basic English (TABE) Locator and Survey or through high school or college transcripts. High School students will be assessed by their counselor.

Admission Requirements:
• Must be at least a Junior in high school

Occupation & Licensure Requirements:
There are no occupation licensing or registration requirements to practice as a Dental Assistant in Utah at this time. However, taking the USOE Benchmark tests are highly recommended.
