Course: Central Sterilization Processing Technician Clinical

Course Description
This course allows the medical assistant student the opportunity to demonstrate their administrative and clinical skills in health care setting. This non-paid externship takes place in a working medical office or clinic under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Certificate

A Central Sterilization Processing Technician will have an opportunity to test their knowledge and hands-on training at a clinical externship site. The optional clinical externship will allow students to sharpen their skills, as they will handle and utilize all types of surgical instruments and equipment. Cleaning, assembling and packaging hundreds of surgical instruments will be practiced for 400 hours in order to satisfy IAHCSMM's national exam requirements.

Specific Course Admission Requirements
This course must be taken after successful completion of the 80-hour CPT course. Students must also be 18 years of age; pass a background check and drug screen; have current Immunizations, MMR/Titer, Varicella, TDaP, and Hepatitis B series; and have a current TB test and/or X-ray.

Course Location and Schedule
Health Care Technologies clinicals, externships, and internships are offered at various partner locations. Specific dates, times, and locations for your desired course are based on the decisions of both you and your instructor.

Tuition and Fees
Tuition is based on the tuition rate of $1.30 per classroom hour and is $520 for the complete 400 hour course. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
