Course: Image Editing (Photoshop)

Course Description
This course will teach students how to edit, combine, and manipulate digital images using industry standard software. Students will learn advanced image compsiting and layering features and how to separate images into process colors for printing. Projects include creating colored line-art, retouching damaged photos, building panoramic scenes, making digital collages, and adding special effects including type. Students will also learn how to make accurate color separations and how to convert images for use on the Internet.

Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient image editing skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Technical Competency is available upon request.

Competencies (skills you will learn)

  • Demonstrate advanced layering techniques
  • Apply combinations of filters and lighting effects to create special styles and textures, then save steps as actions
  • Use alternate mode selections to perfect selections, then save the selections as alpha channels and use them to modify specific areas of images
  • Composite multiple images together seamlessly into digital collages
  • Create web documents with optimized images, buttons, slices, and rollovers, place files for animation and create animations
  • Calibrate monitors, set preferences, select objects, use measurement tools, use plug-ins, acquire images, and select print options

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Media Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.
