Course: Desktop Publishing Applications I (InDesign)

Course Description
This course is designed to teach skills for creating document layouts that are ready for printing and Web distribution using leading industry publishing software such as QuarkXPress. Students will learn the processes and techniques to produce a broad array of stunning print and online documents through a step-by-step approach. New web publishing features such XML rollovers, hyperlinks, and meta tags; and tools for high-impact, illustrated charts and tables; and other interface improvements will be taught. Students will be exposed to useful tips and practical advice for producing documents ranging from party invitations, to interactive Web pages, to national ad campaigns while maximizing their productivity. 

Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient desktop publishing skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Technical Competency is available upon request.

Competencies (skills you will learn)

  • Use the basic tools and menus of the software to create layouts with text and image shapes
  • Modify layout appearance with new colors, sizes, styles, and shapes
  • Manipulate text, including creating multiple pages with text linking, runaround, jump lines, in-line graphics, and pagination boxes
  • Demonstrate layout techniques using style sheets, master pages, and advanced editing features
  • Collect and prepare files for output for professional printing
  • Create Web-ready documents complete with rollovers, image maps, hyperlinks, tables, meta tags, and customized underline styles
  • Use XML features to create media-independent content
  • Export files as PDF documents
