Course Description
This course teaches introduction and basic skills using the equipment in Wheeler’s Practice Range. Instruction is given in equipments safety procedures, start-up and shut-down procedures, tool application, laser levels, slopes, and grade stakes. Equipment inspections and preventive maintenance, and equipment operations and practice are also included.
Certificate
Completion of this course results in an SLTATC Certificate of Proficiency for the Heavy Equipment Operator program.

- Demonstrate safety habits, and handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Demonstrate the proper use of laser levels.
- Show how to read grades.
- Demonstrate start-up and shut-down procedures.

- Demonstrate proper maintenance of tool, and tool application.
- Demonstrate proper equipment operations and practice.
Course Structure
This is a competency-based coursed offered on a fixed class schedule with traditional classroom and hands-on instruction.

The defined length of this course is 140 hours.

Tuition and Fees
Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
