Course Description
This is the second part of a two course series. This course focuses on all aspects of air induction and exhaust systems, fuel systems, emission systems, and onboard computer powertrain controls. This class will teach detailed training in all aspects of diagnosis and repair of automotive engine performance systems. Instruction is given in all aspects of engine performance including but not limited to fuel injection systems, carburetor systems, ignition systems, computer controls, emissions systems, and exhaust systems. Oscilloscope operation and waveform analysis is also covered.
This course conforms to ASE/NATEF standards.
Certificate Completion of this course certifies proficient automotive engine diagnostic and repair skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Technical Competency is available upon request. This course, when taken with Engine Performance I, will also prepare you to take the ASE Engine Certification Test.

- Inspect, diagnose, and repair general fuel supply and delivery systems.
- Diagnose and repair intake and exhaust systems
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair general emission control systems
- Operate a 5 gas exhaust analyzer, and interpret and analyze exhaust 5 gas emissions
- Inspect, diagnose with and without the use of a scan tool, and repair engine computer control systems
- Operate a lab scope and analyze electronic components and devices oscilloscope waveforms
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair electronic fuel injection systems
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair on board diagnostic systems
Course Structure This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length The estimated length of this course is 330 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.
Specific Course Admission Requirements This course is meant to be taken and the second part of a two course series. Also, courses in the Transportation Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.

8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday
