Course Description
The CDL Class B to Class A course is designed to provide training for individuals who possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License and wish to upgrade to a Class A license. This course will prepare experienced Class B drivers to pass the Class A written permit test and give them the necessary skills to pass the Class A driving test. The course consists of 32 hours of parking, backing and over-the-road instruction and covers all the necessary DOT and UDOT rules and regulations related to Class A driving. Many employers will pay for this upgrade training for existing employees.
This course is divided into three parts. First, the instructor reviews the DOT and UDOT regulations that govern Class A driving. Second, the student learns backing and parking using the 53-foot trailer. The third portion teaches the student bobtail driving in the tractor to teach them shifting a 10-speed transmission and then over-the-road driving with the tractor/trailer combination.
Certificate Completion of this course results in an SLTATC Certificate of Skills Competence. Completion of the program will also prepare students to sit for the Utah CDL Class A Licensing Tests including the written test, the pre-trip inspection test, the skills test, and the driving test.
