Course Description
The Pharmacy Technician course will review the history of pharmacy and the health care system, as well as give students insight look at the field of pharmacy today. It will introduce the training standards and competencies necessary for the workforce, and certification guidelines.
It will discuss federal and state law as it relates to pharmacy, necessary terminology used in the field, as well as review the various types of routes and formulations. The complete prescription label and process information will be reviewed, as well as calculations used in pharmacy. Common and specialized pharmacy settings, guidelines and equipment & supplies will also be covered. A basic pharmacology introduction will be explored by memorizing over 200 trade, generic and drug classifications.
Certificate Completion of this course in conjunction with the Pharmacy Technician Externship will result in the SLTATC Certificate of Proficiency for the Pharmacy Technician Program. Full completion of the program will also prepare you to sit for the PTCE National Test and the Utah Pharmacy Technician Law & Rules Exam.

Course Structure This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length The estimated length of this course is 140 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

Course Location and Schedule
Salt Lake Campus: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday - Thursday
Granite Technical Institute: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday
