Course Description
This course teaches the student to calculate medication dosages and administer parenteral and nonparenteral medications.
Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding of the basic concepts and procedures of pharmacology based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Technical Competency is available upon request.

- Dispense oral medications
- Properly apply eye and ear medication drops
- Properly apply skin and topical medications
- Properly apply nasal medications
- Properly inject intradermal medications
- Properly inject subcutaneous medications
- Properly inject intramuscular medications
- Properly explain Z-tract injections
- Explain how to properly reconstitute powdered medications
- Explain the proper withdrawal of medication from an ampule
- Properly withdraw medication from a vial

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Health Care Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.

Tuition and Fees
Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
