Course Description
This course provides the student with an introduction to medical insurance procedures.
Certificate Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding of basic insurance procedures based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Technical Competency is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:
Competencies (skills you will learn)
- Use CPT codes properly
- Properly use ICD-9 codes
- Complete and file a medical insurance claim form
- Properly complete an electronic claim
Course Structure This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length The estimated length of this course is 20 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.
Specific Course Admission Requirements There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Health Care Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.

Rose Park Campus: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday -Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday
Salt Lake Campus: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Thursday
Horizonte Instruction & Training Center: Monday - Friday, school hours
Tooele County: Monday - Friday, schedule varies
Tuition and Fees Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
