Course: Assisting with Various Medical Specialties

Course Description
Within the Clinical Medical Assisting Program are 14 courses that each focus on medical assisting within a specific medical field or specialty: Assisting with Minor Office Surgery, the Pediatric Examination, the Neurologic Examination, the ENT Examination, the Dermatologic Examination, the Orthopedic Examination, the Physical Medicine Examination, the Pulmonary Examination, the Cardiology Examination, the Allergy/Immunology Examination, the Gastroenterology Examination, the Urologic Examination, the Endrocrinology Examination and the Reproductive Examination.

Certificate
Completion of each course certifies proficient Medical Assisting skills within the specific medical specialty based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Technical Competency is available upon request.

This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:

Competencies (skills you will learn)

  • Understand the vocabulary and terminology of the system
  • Understand the anatomy and physiology of the system
  • Identify common pathophysiology of the system
  • Understand diagnostic and treatment modalities for the system
  • Understand the pertinent pharmacology of the system
  • Properly perform patient education for the system

Course Structure
Each is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

Course Length
The estimated length of these courses is 15-20 hours each.
Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

Specific Course Admission Requirements
There are no specific requirements to take these courses. However, courses in the Health Care Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.

Rose Park Campus: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday -Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday
Salt Lake Campus: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Thursday
Horizonte Instruction & Training Center: Monday - Friday, school hours
Tooele County: Monday - Friday, schedule varies

Tuition and Fees
Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks. Please see the SLTATC Monthly Tuition and Fee Schedule or contact Student Services for current tuition and fee information.

This course does not have an individual course fee, but please see the information sheet for your desired program for estimated total program tuition and fee costs.
