Student Successes
- In May, 2002, Milton Morgan received the second place award at the Utah Skills USA – VICA competition in Diesel Equipment Technology, Secondary Level.
- Sean Dixon, a student in the Murray High School Oracle Internet Academy, was the first high school level Oracle Academy student in the nation to pass the Oracle SQL Exam. He is currently enrolled in the University of Utah Computer Science program, and works as an intern on the Human Genetics database.
- Sergio Ramirez achieved a second place finish in Medical Assisting at the state Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) competition on April 2. Sergio attended our class at Horizonte Training Center.
- Manuel Olmos and Aaron Vargas of Tooele High School excelled on the written portion of the AAA/Ford Auto Service Competition, and were invited to the state final competition. Only high-scoring teams are invited. At the final competition on May 2, our team placed 6th.
- At the statewide TestOut Challenge for IT students on May 1, hundreds of students came to UVSC test their skills against their peers. Clint Young of Grantsville High School placed second in the A+ competition; his instructor was Tony Hart. Alec Wanberg from Taylorsville High School placed second in the MCP competition; his instructor was Matt Henderson.
- Connie Demler was our first student to complete the coursework and the national board test to become a licensed Pharmacy Technician. She says, “I am so glad I took the chance to learn. I want to thank Edgar Cortes and Salt Lake/ Tooele Applied Technology College for the opportunity to change my life for the better.”
- Of the 24 Pharmacy Technician students who sat for the national board test in July, 20 passed and received national certification on their first attempt.
- Tina Waite was our first student to complete the A+ online courses, pass the CompTIA A+ certification exams, and receive her A+ Certificate.
- Clay Hansen was our first student to complete our Network+ online courses, pass the CompTIA Network+ certification exam, and receive his Network+ Certificate.
